Xiaomi to Transition Indian Users from GetApps to PhonePe's Indus Appstore by 2025

Xiaomi is reportedly on the brink of phasing out its GetApps app store specifically for users in India. While an official confirmation has not yet been provided, various sources indicate that the company will transition to PhonePe's Indus Appstore. This Android-based app marketplace was launched earlier this year in February by the Indian digital payment service PhonePe. The Indus Appstore caters to users in both English and twelve regional Indian languages.

Recent updates suggest that Xiaomi has started to inform Indian users about the impending transition from GetApps to the Indus Appstore. This shift will impact devices acquired in the region from Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco. Notifications have begun reaching some users, indicating changes in the GetApps store. According to shared information, a notable notification indicates that the GetApps platform will be unavailable to users as of January 2025. The new marketplace, Indus Appstore, was officially introduced by PhonePe on February 21, and the change is anticipated to reduce unnecessary software on Xiaomi devices.

The notification highlights that Xiaomi users in India won’t need to take any additional steps for this transition. The GetApps team will maintain its support and installation services under the name "Indus Services App." The Indus Appstore features access in English along with twelve regional languages, including Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, and more. It launched with a substantial selection of 200,000 applications, which includes thousands of games. Initially, app listings will be offered without any charges for the first year; however, developers will incur an annual cost afterward. Furthermore, PhonePe has indicated that there will be no fees or commissions imposed on developers for in-app payments that utilize alternative payment solutions.
